1. Oodgeroo Noonuccal (1920-1993)

Oodgeroo Noonuccal, born Kathleen Jean Mary Ruska, was an Australian poet, political activist, and educator. She was a member of the Quandamooka people, belonging to the Noonuccal tribe from Minjerribah (Stradbroke Island). Her poetry often addressed themes of indigenous culture, racism, and environmental issues.

2. Matthew Flinders (1774-1814)

Matthew Flinders was an English navigator and cartographer who was the first person to circumnavigate Australia and give it its name. During his explorations, he visited Stradbroke Island in 1803. Flinders mapped many coastal areas of Australia and greatly contributed to the knowledge of the continent's geography.

3. John Oxley (1785-1828)

John Oxley was a British explorer and surveyor. He conducted several expeditions in Australia in the early 19th century, including one in 1823 where he explored the Moreton Bay region, which includes Stradbroke Island. His explorations were instrumental in the establishment of several early settlements in Australia.

4. Quandamooka People

The Quandamooka people are the traditional owners and custodians of the land and waters in the Moreton Bay area, which encompasses Stradbroke Island. Their cultural heritage, connection to the land, and ongoing contributions to the community are significant and respected.

5. Janet Yellen (born 1946)

Janet Yellen is an American economist and policymaker who served as the Chair of the Federal Reserve from 2014 to 2018. While not a native of Stradbroke Island, she owns a property there and has been known to visit the island for leisure.

6. Pat O'Shea (1931-2007)

Pat O'Shea was a popular Australian children's author best known for her book "The Horses Didn't Come Home." She lived on Stradbroke Island for a significant portion of her life and drew inspiration from the island's natural beauty and its Aboriginal history for her writings.

7. Herb Wharton (born 1936)

Herb Wharton is an Indigenous Australian author, poet, and activist who spent part of his life on Stradbroke Island. His autobiographical novel "Unbranded" recounts his experiences as a child growing up in an Aboriginal reserve on the island.
